|163 show up for first Iowa Snowbird breakfast|
Jaunary 16, 2014 - Gulf Shoresm AL (GSA) - The Iowa Snowbird Club met for an 8:30 a.m. breakfast on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Lulu’s Homeport with 163 members in attendance.
After introductions of first time attendees, Mary and Joe Poindexter and Steve and Chris Hedlund, Co-presidents, shared information about the area economy and highlighted local events of interest to winter visitors. Terry Kiser, Website Manager, encouraged members to post comments on the website if they have information that would be of interest to members.
Many door prizes were awarded and the 50/50 dollars were given to five lucky winners. Local coupon books were available from the Gulf Shores High School representative.
A speaker representing the Swift-Coles Historic Home in BonSecour will be at the next Iowa Snowbird meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 8:30am at Lulu’s Homeport. Future breakfasts will be on the second and fourth Wednesdays, Feb. 12 and 26, at 8:30 a.m. at Lulu’s.Members need to make reservations for the $9.00 breakfast on the “sign up” page of the Iowa Snowbirds website. If that is not possible, call Shari DeCook, 641-521-0929 or Sharon Hesselmann at 563-357-2721 to make the reservation.
The first Iowa cocktail party will be Friday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. at Phoenix V. No reservation is required. Bring a dish to share and your own beverage. Future cocktail parties are January 31 at the Caribe, building C and February 21 at Phoenix VII at 5:00 p.m. Check the Iowa website for golf information and information about other events in the area.
