MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Hurricane season is just over two weeks away, and Mobilians know just how important the National Weather Service is if a storm is approaching. Local 15 found the New Orleans National Weather Service and Mobile’s differ sometimes when it comes to severe weather warnings, especially on April 3, 2013 when the Carnival Triumph broke loose after high winds.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries announced Tuesday afternoon that it has denied two requests from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council relating to red snapper management because to do so would result in unfair and inequitable management, according the service’s regional director.

The 14th Annual Mystics of Pleasure Thunder Run will make one lucky participant $6,000 richer on Saturday, June 1. Both the May 31 captains’ party and post event poker play will e held at Happy Harbor on the Line and include live music and food for participants. Saturday’s party also includes a bikini contest.

The Holy Spirit Thrift Shop in Gulf Shores recently donated $10,000 to Camp Beckwith to be used to upgrade and refurbish rooms at the Camp. Camp Beckwith, located on 84 acres off Highway 10 on Weeks Bay in South Baldwin County, is the Conference Center of the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.

Just this year, crews have collected more than 8,000 pounds of tar on Alabama’s shores – that’s equivalent to the weight of two cars. WSFA 12 News picked up at least 2 pounds in a short walk along Orange Beach back in March.
