A recent decision by the Alabama state legislature to allocate funds from an early settlement with British Petroleum (BP) to build a convention center has aroused anger from Gulf Coast environmental groups. The project is part of a $594 million plan announced last week by BP and the five Gulf Coast states affected by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster.

If you live in Baldwin County, and you need a free crib, you can get one…but there’s a catch. You must enroll in a one hour safe sleep class being held at each of the three Baldwin County hospitals. The B.A.M group (Babies and Mothers of Baldwin County) got a grant from the Children’s Trust Fund of Alabama, to give away the cribs to low-income families. The idea behind the giveaways is to encourage parents to practice safe sleep practices.

The public boat launch on Cotton Bayou in Orange Beach officially reopened at noon Friday, said Chris Denson, senior biologist with Alabama’s Marine Resources Division.
The popular launch had been closed since Feb. 18.

BAY MINETTE – The consolidation of two furniture plants will bring around 100 new jobs to Bay Minette.
Standard Furniture will soon close the smaller facility located in Frisco City, bringing that production and most of the jobs to Baldwin County.
